Building a basic websiteI own and maintain 18 websites currently.. I learned a little about HTML from a book, online and trying to make things work. HTML is not that hard to learn if one takes the time to learn and understand it. The other website languages like PHP and ASP and those are more difficult to learn and probably be best to learn in a school.HTML Goodies is a great place to learn HTML. He takes the time to show you what each command does and then shows how to use it. This site alone will get you started on your way to building a good basic site. All of my sites, with the exception of a few, are all very, very basic and written in HTML. Why do I keep them basic and simple? Look at Google and see how simple it is. People like to keep things simple and easy. I learned that I don't need to pay a company to do what I can do myself. When you build your website, try to keep it basic, original and make lots of pages. Google ranks your website on sites that link to you, sites you link to, pages linked to each other within your site, content, domain name age, content, missing pages, content, and more content. The more content you have, the better it is. Domain names with keywords have a value in your ranking also. I read somewhere that a long page is better if it is made into 2 pages with a link to each other. That gives you 2 pages of content, and smaller pages for faster loading. I am planning to make some pages that can be downloaded for people to use to get started with their very own basic website. Let me know what you think or if you have a story to share. |
